Meet the Staff

Todd Ohlmeyer

todd@recruiterelite.com      cell:512-638-0191

As a child, growing up just outside of New York City, baseball and hockey were Todd Ohlmeyer’s passions, but at 13, much to the surprise of his family, friends, and the town’s baseball community, he quit baseball to turn his attention to golf during the warmer months (hockey during the winter).  He recognized at that age, golf would always hold a significant presence in his life.

Maybe he’s just a glutton for punishment (he did complete an Ironman triathlon), but Ohlmeyer loves the constant challenge of golf.  As a former college player, failed touring professional, and college coach, he knows what it takes and all about the bumps along the way. He loves helping people who share a passion for golf improve, and he finds joy in testing himself every time he is on the course or at the practice area.

Ohlmeyer took a circuitous route to get into coaching.  The two-time All-State golfer from Connecticut traveled out west to be a walk-on at Pepperdine University.  During his time there, he treaded between the 4-7 slots on the roster and was fortunate enough to become teammates with a PGA TOUR winner, a Nike TOUR member (who he caddied for from time to time), a USGA Mid-Amateur champion, successful mini-tour players, club professionals, a college coach, and other players who continue to compete at the amateur level.  All continue to be excellent resources as he tries to help others get better.  This group of like-minded players went on to win the 1997 NCAA championship, and they were all inducted into the Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.

Ohlmeyer also worked in various golf-related jobs, including being a production assistant and operations coordinator for ESPN’s golf coverage, a brief stint at playing professionally, and organizing all the golf tournaments for the American Cancer Society (ACS) in North and South Carolina.  While at ACS, Ohlmeyer became the volunteer assistant coach at Belmont Abbey College, a small DII school outside of Charlotte, NC.  After the first practice, he knew college coaching had to be in his future.  He was fortunate enough to land a job at Coastal Carolina University to serve as the Associate Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Golf.

After a year at Coastal, Ohlmeyer was named the Head Coach of Men’s Golf at St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX.  Under Ohlmeyer’s direction, the Hilltoppers claimed 15 team titles, including the 2010 and 2014 Heartland Conference Championships and a 16-shot victory at the 2014 NCAA South Central/West Regional Championship.  He also guided the Hilltoppers to two of the program’s four NCAA Finals appearances.

Ohlmeyer coached 24 all-conference players, 18 GCAA All-American Scholars, 12 all-region selections, five all-Americans, two members of the NCAA all-freshman team, and a member of the NCAA DII 40th Anniversary team. Individually, Ohlmeyer was named the South Central Region Coach of the Year in 2014 and garnered Heartland Conference Coach of the Year honors four times.

As a coach, academics were always important to Ohlmeyer.  His teams were routinely awarded the GCAA All-Academic Team award. In 2017, the Hilltoppers were named the NCAA Division II Academic National Champions by the GCAA for posting the nation’s best GPA.

In an effort to be home more, Ohlmeyer left coaching in the spring of 2018 to take over Recruiter Elite.  His relationship with its founder, John Murphy, dates back to when Murphy was a sophomore seeking a transfer from Old Dominion, and Ohlmeyer was at Coastal Carolina University.  Murphy would eventually choose the University of California at Berkeley, but the two remained in contact through the years.

Ohlmeyer is a Family Finding volunteer with CASA of Travis County in his spare time.  He can also be found on a stand-up paddleboard with his wife and their two children, participating in triathlons, watching the Carolina Panthers, talking about Notre Dame football, dreaming about being in the NHL, or, of course, playing golf.

My family and I have been so impressed by their professionalism and ability to work with my son in his pursuit to play college golf.  They have worked with him to build a golf resume and taught him the proper methods to email and communicate with college coaches.  We have watched our sons confidence and ability to send emails and set up and take recruiting visits dramatically improve throughout this process.  We are now well on our way to a scholarship and achieving my son’s dream of playing college golf. I would encourage anyone with a high school golfer aspiring to play college golf to work with Todd at Recruiter Elite.
