Where your child will attend college is clearly one of the most important decisions that he/she will ever make, guided, and supported by Mom and Dad. Academics, what he/she would like to study, location, cost, etc all factor in. If a desire to play college golf is added — level, coaches, quality of the program, facilities, schedule — the evaluation process can become a bit more involved.
We had done a good deal of due diligence on the NCAA rules of recruiting but we wanted some assistance in making sure that we were being complete in evaluating the “normal” considerations for college selection with the addition of the desire of our boys to play D-1 college golf. A friend suggested that I talk to Todd Ohlmeyer with Recruiter Elite and after some initial consultations with him we obtained his assistance.
Todd first focuses on getting to know the student-athlete and the family. What are the goals of the student-athlete academically and golf wise? The family background and what is important to them? Level of play of the student-athlete? Etc etc. Once Todd has a good understanding of the student-athlete and family and what they might be considering in the way of universities, he can start to make some suggestions or recommendations for the student-athlete and family to consider based on his thorough knowledge of college golf including academics, coaches, programs, facilities, schedule, etc.
We found the recruiting process to be one of ebbs and flows as our boys processed the conversations they were having with coaches and information that they were receiving from colleges and coaches. Todd helped to prepare our boys for the recruiting process when it started in earnest on June 15th. One good example of how Todd helped in the recruiting process is that initially, our boys were only considering schools in the southern part of the US. However, Todd highlighted some of the northern and California schools that had expressed interest in our boys and Todd thought our boys might want to seriously consider based on the mix of academics and their top-notch golf programs.
As it ended up one of our boys committed to Notre Dame as our son concluded that it was the best fit for him and Mom and Dad agreed. Through the recruiting process, Todd did have some contact with college coaches about our boys to help the coaches get to know them but he emphasizes that he does not “get the spot for the student-athlete” into the program. That comes from the merit of the student-athlete.
Finally, Todd is a pleasure to work with — very professional, very personable, and just a very good person who gained the confidence of our two boys as well as that of Mom and Dad. Our boys’ and our family’s experience with Todd has been of tremendous benefit in this important decision.
Our son decided at the end of his junior year that he wanted to try to play golf in college. To say trying to figure out how that might happen was a little intimidating is an understatement. We had no idea where to start. Thankfully, we learned about Todd Ohlmeyer and Recruiter Elite through the TJGT. We scheduled a call with Todd and almost instantly felt at ease with him. He was honest and open about the process and immediately went to work to find a spot for our son. And, when we say “find a spot,” there’s so much more to it than that. Todd knows the college coaches and he spends time with your son (or daughter) to make sure he is introducing them to programs where they will fit. We could not have gotten through this process without him! With Todd’s help, our son found not only a “spot,” but a team and coach that he already feels connected with. If your player is interested in playing golf in college, call Todd today. You will be glad you did!!!
Recruiter Elite has brought us clarity and comfort to an otherwise confusing and stressful process. Todd Ohlmeyer walked my daughter every step of the way through the recruiting process. He checked in with her once or twice a week (at a minimum) to insure that her progress toward committing to a collegiate team met her expectations and desires. Even after my daughter committed, Todd continued to guide my daughter through the process of admissions and making sure she completed all tasks requested by the new school and coach. We highly recommend Recruiter Elite.
I met Todd, along with my wife and golf-loving son, completely happenstance, at an HJGT event in Orlando, near the end of my son’s junior year. We had a private meeting with him (30 minutes or so, I would guess) after a round of the 3-day event. Based on that meeting alone, we signed up. My son was attending a cyber school. We had engaged a college guidance specialist to help him choose the right college for him. She was all over the academic and social matching, but Todd brought to the table the golf matching. These two specialists worked together, each bringing their expertise to the table for my boy. Todd played well in her sandbox as did she is his. This was important to us, and is a skill not all can do.
Todd’s input was invaluable. Todd operates in a very clear and precise manner, starting with a large group of “possible” school targets based on all of the objective criteria, then narrows from there in conjunction with decisions made by the kiddo (and kiddo’s parents). His past lives as a college golfer and a college golf coach bring much knowledge and experience to the process. He uses technology very nicely and though Mom and Dad were not at the forefront of the contact, we were copied with all communications between Todd and my kiddo, and Todd was very responsive in a timely fashion to all questions and concerns from any of us. He manages the process such that he and his client (the student) are on all deadlines and contacts (even what to say and scripting the starting draft of what to write) with schools and their coaches (emails, resumes, phone calls). As the field narrows, digging into what each offers gets more attention. Then visits are discussed. What questions to ask, and maybe more importantly, what questions not to ask. So all stress between kiddo and parents kinda disappears! How great does that sound!
As one might expect, Todd does not come cheap. Can you do what he does yourself as a concerned parent? Probably yes. Can a parent do it well, and anywhere near the level Todd does it? No way. My point is this: If your budget is tight, maybe you should skip this or at the very least talk to Todd as he may be able to cater a package to suit your needs. But if you have the funds, you certainly get what you pay for, and far more opportunities will be considered in a thorough and thoughtful way. Would a parent and kid doing this on their own end up at the same school as if one used Todd’s expertise? No way I say. And no way does a parent have the knowledge base to match their kid with a program based on anything other than objective criteria; Todd adds more to it than that.
Final thought: If your kiddo loves the game and wants to play at the next level (college golf) as much as mine, Todd offers a product and process that is well-honed and through the process you will not regret having him on your team.

My family and I have been so impressed by their professionalism and ability to work with my son in his pursuit to play college golf. They have worked with him to build a golf resume and taught him the proper methods to email and communicate with college coaches. We have watched our sons confidence and ability to send emails and set up and take recruiting visits dramatically improve throughout this process. We are now well on our way to a scholarship and achieving my son’s dream of playing college golf. I would encourage anyone with a high school golfer aspiring to play college golf to work with Todd at Recruiter Elite.
